Description
Xarelto is a prescription oral anticoagulant that contains rivaroxaban, a direct Factor Xa inhibitor. It is widely used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and reduce the risk of clot formation following knee or hip replacement surgery.
Xarelto works by directly inhibiting Factor Xa, a key enzyme in the coagulation cascade, thereby reducing the formation of blood clots. Unlike traditional blood thinners like warfarin, Xarelto does not require routine INR monitoring and has fewer food interactions.
Dosing frequency and tablet strength vary depending on the indication and the individual patient profile.
